In short

  • We take: phone number, name, birth date, time and place, your questions to Chacha and its answers, and memories only if you allow.
  • Your profiles, family included, are synced to our servers over an encrypted connection, so they come back on a new phone. You can delete them at any time. For a child we keep only a name or nickname and the birth details.
  • Chacha is an AI. Your question, your chart facts and your first name go to our AI partners: OpenAI to write answers, Sarvam for voice. Not your phone number.
  • The agreement you accept at the start says in one sentence that your question goes to an AI model. Memory and app-usage data each have their own optional yes, and you can withdraw any in a tap.
  • You can view, correct, export and delete your data at any time.

What we collect

Phone number (to sign you in); your name, birth date, time and place, and those of the family or friends you add (for a child, only a name or nickname and the birth details); the questions you ask Chacha and its answers; the chart computed on your phone and uploaded to our servers; a push token and device type; payment records from Cashfree, Google Play or Apple (we never see your card or UPI PIN); your thumbs-down and reports about answers; and, only if you agree, memories and app-usage or crash data. If you use the microphone, the audio is sent to our speech partner to be turned into text; we do not save the recording.

Why, and your consent

To make your kundali and answer you (needed for the app to work); to remember what you tell Chacha (optional, its own consent); to understand crashes and improve the app (optional); to send reminders you switch on. Each purpose has a separate consent. Sending your question and chart facts to our AI partners is part of the agreement you accept at the start, which says so in one sentence; if you have not said yes to it, or you turned it off later, Chacha asks on a short sheet before your first question and before your first use of the microphone. You can withdraw it in Settings > Privacy and data, and Chacha then cannot answer until you say yes again. Optional consents are never pre-ticked and can be withdrawn as easily as they were given.

Where it is kept

Your kundali is made on your phone. Your birth details, and those of the family and friends you add, are saved on your phone and synced to our servers (our database host) over an encrypted connection (TLS), so that they come back on a new phone. The chart (not your phone number) is uploaded too, for answers. Chats, memories and account data are on our servers; Chacha’s memories are encrypted by us before they are saved, and are cached on your phone in an encrypted database that works offline. You can delete a person, a memory, your chats, or your whole account at any time. If you make a backup file, it is locked with a passphrase only you know: we cannot open it, and we cannot recover a forgotten passphrase. The data-export file is readable text made on your phone and removed from it after you share it.

Children

You may add a child’s kundali as a parent or guardian. For a child we keep only a name or nickname and the birth details, nothing else, and you can delete them at any time. Please do not add a child’s phone number, school or photos. Kundali Chacha itself is for people aged 18 and above, so a child cannot have an account.

Chacha’s memory

Chacha may save short facts you stated about yourself, such as a city or a preference. It never saves health, caste or religion, money details, court matters, opinions about others or anything from a distress conversation, and a server filter enforces this. You can edit, delete, pause or erase all memories at any time. Memories Chacha saved on its own are deleted if they have not changed for 12 months; ones you add or edit yourself stay until you delete them.

Who we share with

AI partners (their servers may be outside India): OpenAI receive your question, your chart facts, your first name and an approximate age, to write the answer; Sarvam receives your voice to turn it into text and, when you ask Chacha to speak, the text of the answer to read it aloud. We use no-training and zero-retention settings where available, and send no phone number, surname, birth date, birth time or place name. Others: an SMS or WhatsApp provider for sign-in codes; our cloud and database host; and payment partners (Cashfree for UPI AutoPay, Google Play, Apple). We do not sell your data.

How long we keep it

Chat history is deleted from our server after 30 days unless you save the answer. Saved answers and reports stay until you delete them. Thumbs-down and reports about answers, with a copy of the answer, are kept for 180 days. A spoken answer (the audio of Chacha reading an answer aloud) is deleted 7 days after it was made. A support or grievance ticket is kept for 2 years after it is closed, then deleted; a ticket that nobody has closed is closed by us after 365 days, so no ticket is kept without end. Payment, invoice and refund records are kept for 8 years from the payment (GST and income-tax record rules), then deleted. When you delete your account, your profiles, chats, memories, reports and devices are erased at once and backups clear within 30 days. Your payment, invoice and refund records, and your support tickets, are kept anonymised until their own period above ends: they no longer carry your name, phone number or kundali, and what you wrote in a ticket is erased (only its number, type and dates stay). Records of your consent are kept, anonymised, as long as the law requires. To stop free questions and referral rewards from being collected twice, we also keep a scrambled code of your phone number after you delete your account (made with a secret key, so the number cannot be recovered from it, and not linked to your account): the referral one for 180 days; the free-question one is kept so that free questions cannot be claimed twice.

Your rights

You can see, correct, export (Settings > Privacy and data > Export my data) and delete your data, and withdraw consent at any time. You may name someone to act for you. Write to the Grievance Officer if something is wrong; if you are not satisfied you can approach the Data Protection Board of India. Kundali Chacha is for people aged 18 and above.
